The Last of Fall

Hi Lovelies,

As I mentioned in my last post, I have a serious love for the cocoon coats at J.Crew; I told you I had it in a few colours, and this one is my very favourite (and that’s saying a lot because I own it in hot pink!). The colour is called “Cocoa” and I think it is such a unique brown that I couldn’t say no! Also, you’ve seen my black turtleneck before in pink, and it’s another staple for me. I’ve paired it with black jeans, and the classic Ugg boots to make a fall outfit that will work for several years to come.

Holiday Gift Guide: Men’s Edition

Hi Lovelies!

With the holidays fast approaching I’m working my way through my Christmas shopping, and I’ve found that for the first year in perhaps ever, I actually have some good gift ideas for the men in my life. I thought I’d share them with you so that if any of you are shopping the Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales, you can keep them in mind. So Husband beware, if you read on several of your gifts will be spoiled! Most of them are self explanatory but I have to say my favourite this year is the new L’Occitane cologne called Cedrat. I’ve linked to a beautiful gift basket but the cologne by its self is very reasonably priced ($62 for 2.5 fl/oz) and men approved – I’ve sprayed it on a few scent cards and then asked my Hubs, friends, and random department store workers what they thought of it, and everyone loved it! The mini bar kit is also a great gift because in my opinion its a pretty unique find, and great for anyone who loves to travel. I’m always looking for more men’s gift ideas so leave me a comment if you have any you love!

Cobalt Cocoon Coat

Hi Lovelies,

Don’t worry, I haven’t forgotten about my little blog already . . . things are busy around here and don’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon. Lucky for me, it’s all good stuff – lots of family has been coming into town (you can check my Instagram if you want to see my every day life – @overthetopma)! In fact, my Mama and Mother in-law are visiting this weekend for our annual Black Friday shopping (with a side of Thanksgiving!). That means lots of new posts are headed your way because I can’t resist a good sale, or two, or fifteen.

With that said, today’s look is one of my favourites. Mostly because it has hot pink accessories, but also because I think cobalt blue and grey look amazing together and I have a tiny large obsession with the J.Crew cocoon coats. I’m ashamed to admit I own them in 4 colours, but they are just that good! I also have this grey pencil skirt in a forrest green and light pink, too; the fit is perfect, and I think the zipper is a fun detail on an otherwise timeless wool skirt. As a bonus, they’re thick enough to wear all winter and not freeze your bum off.

Retro Chic

Hi Lovelies,

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve posted and I’ve missed this little blog of mine. Things have been hectic around here to say the least, but I’m hoping to get back to more regular posts soon. In the mean time, here’s one of my favourite looks that easily transitions from casual to business causal. This knit cowl neck is such a versatile piece because it, of course, pairs well with jeans but is also cropped just enough that it doesn’t look too bulky if you front-tuck it into dress pants or pencil skirts. To make this more office appropriate I would put a button down shirt on underneath so that the sleeves and hem of the dress shirt show, and pair it with pointed toe navy heels. I’ve also been really into slim fit cuffed dress pants lately because unlike regular dress pants which have a bit of a straight leg or flare, the cuffed pants can easily be worn with heels or flats without worrying about the proper hem length. As a side note, this nude lipstick is the perfect nude/camel/orangeish-brown if you’re looking for one – it can be worn without a lipliner and is just glossy enough that you don’t need to layer a gloss without losing its pigmentation; I’ve almost used my entire tube up!

Best Of: Sephora VIB Sale 2016

screen-shot-2016-11-02-at-9-59-48-pm

Hi Lovelies,

The Sephora VIB sale is coming up soon (starting November 4th for VIB Rouge!), so I thought I would share my top picks for this year. The sale (which is 20% off for VIB Rouge, and 15% off for VIB – I believe) is a great time to stock up on Christmas presents, stocking stuffers, birthday gifts, or treats for yourself. To be honest, I also buy all of my regulars as well this time of year, like mascara, face wash and eyeliner – the staples I know I’ll go through in the next few months. A lot of my favourite brands come out with special sets for the holidays which are a great way to test out several products in smaller sizes, or if you’re like my family and travel frequently, you’ll have several packing friendly sizes to choose from. I’ve explained a bit about why I chose each product below, but if you’re more interested in seeing what the products are for yourself you can just click the links!

  1. YSL Glossy Stain (Rouge Laque): Clearly a red lip is popular this time of year (and even more so into the Holidays!). This one is glossy and goes on like a regular gloss, but also stays put like a stain. It’s almost hard to believe because it doesn’t make sense how it can do that- but it does, so much so my Mom & Sister both love to use mine.
  2. YSL Lips & Lashes Set: This set is so many of my favourite YSL products in one. This mascara is incredibly popular and makes lashes thick and super black. Their lipsticks are all amazing, creamy and hydrating, and the Touche Eclat concealer is probably the product that YSL makeup is most well known for.
  3. Murad Pore Reform Polish:This is a super fine scrub that I use almost every day. It’s great for my oily skin because it helps keep the oil from clogging up pores.
  4. Tarte Ready Set Glow: I can’t say I’ve tried all of the products in this set, but I’m excited to. The facial scrub stick is the cleanser I take with me when I travel since it’s in stick form it’s one less liquid to worry about, and it’s a scrub! The lip scrub stick is also something I love. It’s like a peppermint crayon you rub on your lips to exfoliate them – amazing for the cold weather.
  5. Too Faced Cheek & Lip Set: I have several Too Faced blushes and always love how pigmented and soft they are, but my favourite product of this set is the Lip Injection; it’s a super minty, tingly lipgloss that actually plumps your lips! Depending on how sensitive your skin is, you may find it burns a bit, but I love it all the same.
  6. Tatcha Best Sellers Set: If you read my Fall Faves: Beauty Edition, than you already know how much I love the Tatcha Luminous Dewy Skin Mist, but their Camilla cleansing oil and Rice Enzyme Powder are also unique, excellent and worth a try.
  7. L’Occitane Almond Milk Concentrate: There are no words to describe my love for this product. I have had an unhealthy obsession with the almond shower oil for several years now but my love for all L’Occitane almond products is quickly growing because of their delicious almond scent – it’s like sugar cookies and marzipan had a yummy almond baby. This product in particular is super light so it absorbs quickly and never feels greasy, it actually leaves a velvety and almost silicone feeling on your skin.
  8. First Aid Beauty, 5 in 1 Bouncy Mask: This mask is unique in that its a clear, bouncy gel like the name suggests. I’ve found that it’s the closest results to a hyrdafacial that I’ve gotten at-home and over 5 or so uses I’ve noticed my skin looks more hydrated and even.
  9. Beauty Blender & Too Faced Kit: I apply my makeup almost daily with a beauty blender, so this kit which also includes the beauty blender blotter and the Too Faced highlighter (which I love on it’s own!) is a great kit for anyone wanting to try the beauty blender.
  10. Murad Clarifying Wipes: These wipes are good just about any time, but I like to use them in the morning when I’m too lazy to properly wash my face, or am running late. As a bonus, they feel a bit minty so it’s a good wake up.
  11. Too Faced Glitter Glue: I love to wear loose pigment shadows, or loose glitter during the holiday season (or any time of year really) and this glitter glue is the best way to stop the fall out and keep it on all day.
  12. Sephora Waterproof Eye Makeup Remover: The best makeup remover for waterproof mascara and eyeliner. Period.
  13. Sunday Riley U.F.O.: I alternate between this oil and the one in set 14 (Luna) every night, but this one is particularly good for keeping oily or blemish prone skin clear and I’ve noticed since adding it to my routine that my skin texture has improved overall.
  14. Sunday Riley Power Couple: I can’t possibly explain my love these products in a few short sentences. They changed my skin entirely – for the best! Anyone who is looking for amazing new products should give this duo a shot. Luna has retinol in it which is good to prevent aging and Good Genes is a lactic acid treatment that also helps keep skin clear.
  15. Miu Miu Fragrance: Sephora has a lot of really awesome fragrance sets, and the sale would be a good time to pick some up! Although I haven’t actually tried this Miu Miu one, it’s been buzzed about quite a bit recently and I’m wanting to try it so this roller ball and mini size duo is the perfect opportunity.
